Celebration

Mom celebrated her 82nd birthday on Monday. Rob took her out to dinner on her birthday, she went to lunch with her siblings and sister-in-law yesterday and we took her out to eat last night. Sophie and Gaby were excited to eat and celebrate.... ....along with Carlee and Miguel. We love you Grandma Boots. Happy Birthday...and many more!

Granny Nanny Day 8

Yesterday was full of mini miracles! Annika and Justin got themselves dressed after breakfast. Annika combed Justin's hair and he let her do it! In fact we were ten minutes early for church because they were so cooperative.




They both looked so nice, put together and proud of themselves.

Kyle had a good nap, Annika didn't mind when her brothers took over her Lego Friends Cafe and everyone liked and ate their dinner. We were able to keep the house fairly picked up and organized for Daddy and Mommy's homecoming. The kids got to stay up a little past their bedtime and were very excited when Dan and Jamie got home. We all had a great week with lots of mini miracles. Life is good and grandkids are awesome!

Granny Nanny Day 7

This morning started with a visit from Iron Man! Annika had her first soccer game of the season this morning. The Frost's planned to pick her up at 9:30 am. When I suggested that I google the address to the YMCA so that I could take her to the game she said "That's okay Grandma. I'll just go with the Frost's." Okay, so I made a few wrong turns on the way home from gymnastics earlier this week. In my defense, it was getting dark and we got home eventually. Of course, I took a picture of Annika before she left for the big game. The morning was a bit cool so I suggested she take a jacket. Annika thought for a minute, then ran into the house. While I waited for Annika to come back outside I took a picture of Kyle and another Iron Man. He was happy to be outside without his shoes and still in his pajamas. Annika returned with her version of a warmer outfit. Okie dokie Miss Annika!! BTW...she ended up taking off the fleece sweatshirt part way through the game. Justin spent most of the morning putting the 242 pieces of his Ninjago Jay's Storm Fighter into bags based on color. Then he dumped all of the bags into a single pile and assembled a perfect Storm Fighter. Kyle and I spent the morning doing some building of our own. After lunch and Kyle's nap we headed to the park. Annika has mastered the monkey bars. The girl on the left is Maddy, the daughter of Annika's first grade teacher. The boys went straight for the sand. Yep...it's definitely bath night! Our McDonald's dinner was eaten in the backyard. Kyle consumed his chicken nuggets in a matter of minutes, then ate the second half of my Big Mac. Apparently he was hungry! The boys were in bed tonight by 8:45. Annika's hit the pillow a bit later...she is seven, going on fifteen!

Granny Nanny Day 6

Yesterday was a short day at school and Justin's afternoon Kindergarten attends all day every other Friday.  It was Justin's Friday to go to school. I woke up both kids and we moved through the morning routine of dressing, eating breakfast and waiting for Amy B to pick up. At the last minute I remembered that teeth had not been brushed. We quickly took care of the task. Justin's lunch was packed and loaded in his backpack along with his Angry Bird for show and tell. Annika decided to match Justin and wear the same colored shirt and shorts to school. While I took this picture Kyle was sleeping...and sleeping...and sleeping. He slept until just after 9:30. I was on the second load of laundry before he woke up:) I also had time Friday morning to build Justin's new Lego Ninjago vehicle. It is Jay's Storm Fighter. It didn't fit together quite right so I promised Justin that I would try to fix it. I disassembled part of the cockpit, found the problem and had it reassembled before Justin got home from school. As I put it together I knew that soon Justin would take it apart and rebuild it again. I reminded myself that I couldn't have a fit when he took apart my hard work. Sure enough, right after dinner the Storm Fighter was in 242 pieces. While the big kids were at school, Kyle helped me power wash everything in the back yard whether it needed it or not. He LOVES water!! After school Annika had a snack and headed to her piano lesson.  Next, it was a play date for Annika and Justin at the Pollary's house.  Thanks Amy P!

Since there would be no school the following day, Annika talked me into letting them stay up until 10:00 pm. We played Hide and Seek with the neighbors, went to 7-11 to get a treat, popped popcorn and watched a movie. Just before 10 Justin told me he had a headache and wanted to go to bed!  He also told me, "Grandma, I forgot to tell you that I fell off the monkey bars today at school and some wood chips got in my mouth."  No wonder he had a headache!   Kyle had a late nap but settled down quickly as well. I am paying the price for my decision to allow the bedtime hour to be extended. We have had a few "grumpy pants" moments today. Tonight it will be bedtime at 8:30 pm!!

Granny Nanny Day 5

Granny did not post yesterday. I sat in Annika's room last night until she fell asleep. By then I was too sleepy to do more than go to bed myself. Annika said she just couldn't quit talking to herself and that kept her from falling asleep. She was pretty sure that if she slept in Mom and Dad's bed she would fall right to sleep. I convinced her to stay in her own bed and suggested we play the quiet game. It worked! She didn't say another word until I woke her up this morning!

Annika carpooled to school yesterday morning as she has every morning this week. Thanks Amy B! It is nice to be able to let Kyle sleep in. When I took Justin to school at noon I asked him if he wanted to walk to the door by himself. "No Grandma. I want you to walk with me." However, by the time I got Kyle out of the van, Justin had met up with two friends and didn't look back. Kyle and I walked up to Justin's door anyway, told Justin goodbye, then turned around and walked back to the van. Annika had soccer practice last night. Stacie and Darren picked her up and brought her back home. Thanks Frosts! While Annika was gone I took the boys and their bikes over to the church parking lot. Justin can ride his bike without training wheels but his start and stop need a bit of work. The parking lot is fairly flat and there are no cars to watch out for. I realized after we got home that I forgot to have him wear his bike helmet. Sorry, Jamie! Kyle spent some of his time on his bike and the rest of the time running up and down the sidewalks. Justin took this picture. Kyle looks a little stressed because he wants his turn with the camera. I look a little tired because I'm tired:) On the way home we stopped at Dairy Queen for Blizzards and Smoothies. Justin reminded me to get one for Annika. He is so sweet!

Granny Nanny Day 4

I have learned a lot in the past four days...or remembered what I had forgotten. I have remembered how busy a two year old can be. I forgot to shut Annika's door yesterday morning when I got Kyle out of his crib.  I remembered to shut her door this morning. I have learned that a two year old is fast...Kyle dumps out faster than I can pick up. I have learned that two year olds can entertain themselves but it comes at a price.  I hope I am putting things back in the right places.  It may take Jamie months to get reorganized! I love you Kyle....and wish that I had half of your energy and intensity to learn!

Granny Nanny Day 3

I am too pooped to post!  I will just say that Annika and Justin made it to and from school, we found our way to gymnastics, Kyle only napped an hour this afternoon and I thought I was on top of things by getting the garbage can out tonight.  Then I checked "the schedule" and realized that garbage day is Friday.  No wonder there were no other garbage cans out when I went to drag the "Lamb Can" back in:)

Granny Nanny Day 2

Annika had been planning for Labor Day long before my trip to Springs. As soon as I arrived she gave me her suggestions for the day.  It read like this:

Three Ideas for Labor Day. 

To Grandma Suzie.  

From: Annika Lamb.  

Dear Grandma, I have some ideas for Labor Day.  

1.  The first idea is packing a lunch and eating it at the park.  

2.  The second idea is going to McDonald's and go through the drive thru and bring it back to the park.  

3.  The third idea is going to the park and eating it there and me and Justin can practice soccer after we eat.

We ended up going with plan number 1.  Justin was invited to a birthday luncheon from 11 to 1.  Annika packed a lunch for Kyle and I along with herself.  After we walked Justin to his party we headed to the park.

Lunch tasted great because I didn't have to fix it! After we ate, Kyle and Annika climbed on the play equipment and spent time on the swings.

They made friends with some boys who came to the park to bury a "time capsule" in the sandbox. Once the capsule was buried, they dug another hole and buried one of the boys.  Kyle was happy to have control of one of the big shovels. Happy Labor Day! After Kyle's nap and Annika's return from an Elder's Quorum Ice Cream Party she attended with the Binns, we headed to Target and then McDonald's. Deciding what to purchase was difficult but everyone came home happy. I even started my Christmas shopping:) Kyle played with scissors and stood on unsteady surfaces while Annika and Justin built their new Lego creations. All were bathed and bedded down before 9 pm and every task for today was checked off the schedule...Jamie's schedule, Annika's schedule and Justin's schedule! Yipee!!

Granny Nanny Day 1

Last Friday night I flew to Colorado Springs. Jamie, Annika and Justin picked me up just before 10:00 pm. Jamie and I were up until 1:00 am Saturday morning going over "the schedule" for the next week. She and Dan will be leaving early Sunday for a week long cruise (with a few dental CE classes thrown in) to Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I will spend the week cruising the streets of Colorado Springs for Kindergarten drop off, gymnastics, piano lessons and possibly a soccer game.

Saturday afternoon was spent driving around town with Jamie to ensure that I really knew where I would be going. Thank goodness Amy B, Amy P and Stacie will be carpooling for many of the activities Annika and Justin will be participating in. This morning at 6:30 am Jamie and Dan headed to the airport. I headed to the shower and then hit the ground running! I took lots of pictures but can't get them to attach to this post. I'll have Annika or Justin show me how to do it tomorrow:) Besides, the pictures could be disturbing to the parents of the children involved.....I am not sure that swinging from the chandeliers was appropriate Sunday behavior.....or appropriate for any day, for that matter!

Here are a few of the highlights of today:

• Annika woke up at 6:20 am, followed by Justin at 6:45 am and Kyle around 8:00. 
• Breakfast included donuts. 
• Annika fixed my hair for church. 
• We managed to make it to church just as the meeting started. Bro. Brent excused the Bishop, who he mentioned was on vacation with his wife. 
• Kyle did not fall asleep on the way home from church....or any time thereafter. His comment was "no nap!" and I said, "Okay":) 
• We had leftover Chinese food for lunch. As Annika was trying to break apart a pair of wooden chop sticks, with some difficulty, Justin said, "Perhaps you should use a tree saw." (He really used the word perhaps!) 
• Later in the evening, as I was fixing dinner and a storm was rolling in outside, Justin was heard to say, "This is the best night ever!" and "This is a night I will never forget." Who knew a thunder storm and Pasta Alfredo would get him so excited! 
• Kyle helped me drop the pasta into the boiling water....one noodle at a time:) 
• Annika picked up 263 toys before bedtime....Kyle sure dumps out a lot of toys when he doesn't take a nap:)
• Annika also made a blue print for enlarging the Mississippi River on her dry erase board. It was awesome.

Have a fun week Dan and Jamie. All is well at home....so far anyway!
