We were happy to have the Lamb family visit Utah for the Thanksgiving holiday this year. The kids and I made several projects as we often do when we are together. Sock Puppets was one of the projects completed by Annika, Justin and Kyle. We were also able to savor some original Hi-Chews, straight from Japan. Steph Crabtree brought them back after visiting Japan for an architecture project. The story of Hi-Chews goes like this: In the 1930's Taichiro Morinaga was trying to make a new kind of chewing gum for Japan. See, in Japan it used to be, and somewhat still is, taboo to take food out of your mouth. So, to make chewing gum a more culturally accepted snack he tried to create a gum that could be swallowed like any other food. Fortunately, Mr. Morinaga had the ability to make outstanding caramel. The caramel was special in many ways, but what really made it unique was its texture. The caramel's creamy and chewy texture was like nothing else in Japan. So, he decided to take this unique texture and combine it with a natural strawberry flavor. And, in 1931, Chewlets was born. Because of World War II Mr. Morinaga had to build his company again from scratch. In 1975, and after a lot of work, Chewlets was re-introduced as the wonderful candy now called Hi-Chew. (Yep, I took this information right off the Hi-Chew package!) I don't know why the Japanese have a problem with swallowing gum. Gaby and Sophie swallow it all the time!
On November 26th, Annika accompanied me to Heartfelt Wall Hangings where I attend a monthly craft class with my cousin, Jeannette Gardner, and several other ladies. We worked on a Christmas project and had a great time. Annika picked out the paint and ribbon for her project.
We bought two other projects that Annika completed at my house and to give to her parents for Christmas. Of course, the U of U block stack is for Dan and the Love, Honor and Cherish stack is for Jamie. We even wrapped them before the Lambs headed back home so that there would be no peeking.
I think Jamie and Dan are going to be happily surprised on Christmas morning:)
